Haiti Concert & Fundraiser

The Need

A woman delivering a baby in sub-Saharan Africa is 230 times less likely to survive the experience than a woman giving birth in a developed country. Mothers die in Africa at catastrophically high rates, causing a ripple effect throughout their small communities, orphaning their children and widowing their husbands.

In Zambia, when a baby’s mother dies during childbirth, that baby only has a 10% chance of surviving to one year of age.

While the average life expectancy in Zambia is 40, America and Japan have 77 and 81 years, respectively.

17% of the population of Zambia has HIV/AIDS—and new infections occur daily especially in women and young people.

99% of maternal deaths worldwide occur in developing countries, but 75 % are deemed preventable by the World Health Organization’s estimations.
